Porch Swing Backs and Armrests If you intend to spend much time at all in your
teak porch swing, you absolutely must look for comfort. Swings vary greatly
by manufacturer and model. Perhaps the most important component of the
swing that influences the overall comfort of it is the back. The back
determines greatly whether a swing will be enjoyed for hours, or simply
sit in the yard, almost ignored. Just like airlines have finally learned to let
their chairs recline a bit, so should porch swings. Not as much as an
armchair, certainly, but just slightly. This enables a person to sit naturally,
rather than with their back straight. The slats themselves should also
have a bit of room between them. This enables air-flow between them, and
makes the entire experience more enjoyable. Also, take into account armrests. Do you want just two on the ends, or one in the middle? Many models, though less traditional, now mount armrests in the middle. There is no right or wrong choice here, just your own personal preference and comfort.
